Been thinking about zine-ing
After watching brattyxbre's video about the use and purpose of zines, I've been thinking about making one myself. Trying to find purpose in a slopified world is hard, but deliberately making an effort to create and understand is something we all should do! I've been itching to create something and this might just be a new opportunity for me.
I've also recently decided to start going through Linux From Scratch whenever I can find some free time. I've been using Linux for a few years now, but I still feel like I'm just scraping by using random commands I find shrewn throughout Linux forums. I understand very little about the system despite using it right now while writing this blog! It will definitely take a long while, but I'd very much like to make a zine about the switch to Linux. It's is a growing market, but that doesn't mean it will overtake Windows, nor OSX any time soon. As someone living in a student city, one single zine can make someone consider checking Linux out.
However, at this moment I don't have the knowledge, nor expression to really explain it all in a coherent way for the average Jane and Joe to understand. I also have very little artistic skills, so I'll need the following skills to really make a cool zine:
- Knowledge: an in-depth knowledge of Linux and its workings;
- Expression: A good way to communicate this newfound information to the general masses. Spending my time in lecture halls has shown me how many people even keep the default desktop config to Windows 11 and so it'll have to be a basic yet insightful explanation;
- Artistic skills: using simple doodles and good art composition can go a long way. I'm far from an artistic talent, but I hope to train my eyes to make something visually aesthetic.
This project is what I'm working towards. I will try to make a few zines in the meanwhile, to train and express my thoughts to give making zines a try. I am pretty busy these days so I'll leave these plans on the backburner, but I'm excited to start! :)
